How to Wash Garden Statues

For most homeowners, their outdoor design isn’t complete without a couple of strategically positioned statues. For the first couple of months, the statues looked immaculate, that’s until Mother Nature kisses them with rain and dirt or the local cat visits. Your marble, vinyl resin, bronze or concrete garden statues appear dirty, dingy and in desperate need of a thorough cleaning. Skip the pricey, store-bought”wonder” cleaning products and rather wash your backyard statues with products located under the sink.

Plastic Resin

Mix 1 gallon water and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap in a plastic bucket. Stir well to incorporate the dish soap.

Dampen a kitchen sponge using all the mixture and wash down the statue, applying pressure to remove difficult stains.

Wipe the soapy residue using a garden hose. Wipe the plastic resin statue with a clean cloth to prevent water marks.

Concrete

Mix 1 gallon warm water and 2 ounces sodium carbonatewashing machine, which can be found on your grocery store’s laundry aisle. Stir well.

Wet the statue with your garden hose before dipping a plastic scrub brush in the washing soda concoction. Scrub the statue with the washing soda concoction.

Rinse away washing soda thoroughly using a garden hose to remove any residue.

Bronze

Blend a nonionic cleaner, like Ivory Snow Flakes, water and a tiny spot-free dishwasher rinse, recommends Dr.SeussArt.com, for cleaning bronze. Stir the ingredients before dampening a soft cloth with the mixture.

Wipe the bronze statue using all the detergent mixture. Utilize a nonwire scrub brush to attain hard areas. Allow the dishwashing detergent solution to remain on the statue to get a couple of minutes to dissolve any deposits or dried bird droppings.

Spray the statue using a garden hose to remove the soapy residue before drying the statue using a soft fabric. Leave the copper to dry for at least two days before applying a thin coating of commercial wax using a plastic scrub brush.

Allow the wax to dry for 20 minutes prior to repainting the statue using a soft fabric.

Marble

Add one-half tablespoon liquid dish soap to 1 gallon warm water. Avoid using an excessive amount of soap, since it will leave unsightly streaks.

Dampen a cloth with the soapy mixture and wash down the statue, using pressure when necessary.

Spray the statue using a garden hose to remove the soapy residue. Wipe down the statue using a soft cloth to prevent water marks.
